A criminal case was filed Denduluru TDP MLA, Chintamaneni Prabhakar, two of his associates and three gunmen, by the Eluru Three Town police station, it is learnt. The case pertains to a complaint lodged against the ruling party MLA by a Dalit supervisor at an IML depot near the Eluru railway station, Rachiti John.

According to the complainant, he was summoned to MLA's house and beaten up, in addition to being abused in the name of his caste. Dalit activists and left groups took up the case and protested for ten days, forcing the police to act. The MLA has been booked under SC/ST Atrocities Act and a case booked under Section 323 of IPC.

John had dismissed a worker at the depot on grounds of inefficiency and poor performance. The MLA summoned John to his house on September 10 and asked him to reinstate the dismissed employee. After a lot of pressure from Dalit activists and left groups it was on Thursday more than a week after the incident took place that the police acted.
