CPS Cancellation: Employees Throng Amaravati, Police Arrest Thousands

CPS protest in Amaravati - Sakshi Post

Amaravati: The AP police arrested several employees who were staging a protest in demand for cancellation of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and reinstatement of the old pension scheme. On Tuesday, several employee unions reached the Capital to participate in the 'Chalo Assembly' protest. The police, however, put up check posts from Prakasam Barrage to Velagapudi and carried out checking of school buses, private vehicles and the RTC buses.

Speaking to media on the arrests of employees, members of the PDF union said that the State government did not have an intention to cancel the CPS. They recalled that YSR Congress party (YSRCP) Chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy hads already announced his stand on the CPS issue.

"The State government did not live up to its promise of discussing CPS in the Assembly sessions. What is stopping the TDP from cancelling the CPS? The police have arrested thousands of employees across the State. The TDP owes an apology to us," they demanded.

Earlier in the day, the Chairman of the AP Legislative Council rejected a resolution on cancellation of the CPS given by the PDF members. With this, the PDF members have raised slogans in demand for a debate on employee arrests and CPS cancellation near the Chairman's podium.

Teachers Or Terrorists?

Questioning the government's attitude in arresting the employees, the PDF members criticized that the police were treating the teachers like terrorists. The PDF members walked out of the Council in protest against the arrests.
