Kurnool Police  planning pickets across the town - Sakshi Post

Kurnool: Right from Friday afternoon, Kurnool town has been taken over by the police. They are coming up with newer restrictions, traffic diversions and even had suggested that many schools close down much before the stipulated time. Overall, the town has been turned into a police fortress. All these measures are for Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's scheduled Dharma Porata Deeksha today.

The police restrictions have turned out to be a hindrance to the people, who recalled that they had never ever seen such police activity in the town. They said that earlier on many occasions the AP CM had come to town for attending different events, but police restrictions, were never in place. This was the first time that people are forced to face such hardships. Moreover many students have been taken into preventive custody on Friday itself sensing that they might protest at the CM's meeting.

ABVP state president Surya was arrested by Three Town police; YSR Student Association president Koneti Venkateswarulu and Rayalaseema university Student Joint Action Committee convenor Sriramulu were among many leaders who have been taken into police custody. The police was in search of many more student leaders till late night on Friday.

Government authorities had issued orders to schools to shut down at 10.30 am today informing parents that CM was visiting the town. Most of the schools decided to declare a holiday today.

Apart from students, the police had also taken into preventive custody persons who they thought would create problems near the Deeksha venue. They have also rounded up intellectuals and social service organisations leaders. The police personnel from neighbouring districts of Anantapur and YSR Kadapa districts were brought for maintaining law and order in Kurnool town during Chandrababu's visit.
