Minimum Rainfall Has Flooded Amaravati: CPI
Vijayawada: CPI Convenor for Amaravati Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) region CH Babu Rao said that Vijayawada and Amaravati cities could not withstand normal rainfall.
Speaking at a press conference here today, he said that around 5,000 houses in the city were inundated with rain water. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government announced that it had constructed rain water canals at the cost of Rs 461 crores.
Babu Rao said that the Kondaveetivagu and Palavagu rivers were flooding the banks in the Capital and that the Chambers of the State Ministers in the Secretariat had been damaged in the floods. "Several Villages in the Capital have been flooded with a rainfall of just 60 mm. In Vijayawada, the TDP leaders are trying to stop the construction of rain water canals, which were originally planned for 150 kilometers," he alleged.
The CPI leader accused the TDP leadership of indulging in high-scale corruption with respect to construction of canals, he said. Demanding a probe into the canal work, he announced that the Communist parties, along with the Jana Sena, would organize a summit at the Gymkhana grounds on August 26 to discuss the issues faced by people of the city.
