Pawan Should Practice What He Preaches

Jana Sena founder Pawan Kalyan's latest statements have raised eyebrows. "I may look soft but I won't spare anyone if need be. I would turn into a hurricane if people were to speak irresponsibly," he said. YSR Congress Party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's statements have in his recent press conference have created a sensation in political circles. YS Jagan made some comments on Pawan's personal life. While political observers are wondering if it was appropriate for the YSRCP chief to speak that way, Pawan's reaction to YS Jagan's statements has created a political uproar. YS Jagan should not have commented on Pawan's married life. This could lead to divert the focus from important issues. Does it mean there is no scope for personal comments in politics? There could be but it depends on the situation, context and the person's strengths.

It's common knowledge that Chandrababu and his party men have made serious comments against the YSRCP president in the past. TDP's dirty comments against YS Jagan when his wife visited him in jail, TDP's comments against megastar Chiranjeevi and more recently Pawan kalyan is still fresh in public memory. A TDP leader recently called Pawan a petty politician. The entire status is privy to the derogatory statements made by Congress as also Chandrababu's cronies against former chief minister Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao (NTR). It's true that one must not make personal comments in politics. However, it has been a part of modern day politics. Let's examine Pawan Kalyan's recent warnings to his rivals. "I wanted to join the armed forces as a child. So I wouldn't be provoked or instigated by people who practice factionism or hooliganism," said Pawan. He also defended his use of such harsh language. Such warnings with respect to social issues could have been appreciable but not on a personal level. Pawan Kalyan had made a sensational statement in the past. He had said that former minister Paritala Ravi ordered the TDP office to spread the news that he had got Pawan's head shaved. Pawan's warning should have come that time. Later, the Jana Sena chief went on to support Telugu Desam. We don't mean to say that he did it out of fear but there arises a question on why Pawan supported TDP by putting aside the head shave remark. Pawan, who entered politics saying he wanted to question the government, remained mum over the last four year. He has to answer why he didn't question the TDP on any issues over the last four years. What did Pawan say on Land Acquisition of Amaravati four years ago and what is his stand now? What could Pawan do to the government which stopped farmers from attending his recent public meeting? Although the Jana Sena founder who's aware that the present TDP government is deeply rooted in corruption. why hasn't he said the same to the government over its corruption? Pawan did not spell out a word on the killing of 29 people during the Godavari and Krishna Pushkaram. Pawan should answer why he remained silent when Kapu community leader Mudragada Padmanabham and his family members were harassed by the police.

When Pawan said that minister Lokesh had a link with Shekar Reddy, who was caught with a huge chunk of demonetized notes, he thought he had revealed something new. However, if he had instead exposed the two with evidence Pawan would have probably earned some credibility among people. It would have helped if Pawan had raised his voice when Chandrababu was caught red-handed in notes for vote case.

It's pertinent to note that YSRCP MLAs boycotted AP Assembly to protest against ministerial berths given to defected MLAs who had been bought by Chandrabu who had a rich experience of 40 years in politics. In this context who should be questioned? Those who switched loyalties, the party which bought them undemocratically or the party which questioned the defection? Has Pawan ever in the last four years pointed to this mistake of TDP? Should Pawan silence stand be seen as a justification of the defection since he was a TDP supporter then? When speak of values in politics, you must follow the same. Instead Pawan is warning his detractors. We all know the kind of comments Pawan fans made against a woman. Should he have not reprimanded such people?

Any way, it's good to note that Pawan Kalyan has decided to put an end to personal attacks after his YSRCP comments.
