Nani vs Vijay Deverakonda: Nag Ashwin Addresses Rising Fan Rivalry

19 Mar, 2025 16:13 IST

Fan wars on social media are nothing new, especially in the entertainment industry. Whether it’s the release of teasers, trailers, or films, fans of various stars engage in online debates, often comparing every detail of their favorite actors’ movies. However, the actors themselves usually remain unaffected, maintaining amicable relationships despite these online conflicts. Currently, a major fan war is brewing between the supporters of Nani and Vijay Deverakonda on social media platforms.

Addressing this ongoing rivalry, acclaimed director Nag Ashwin, known for Kalki 2898 AD, shared his thoughts. Nag Ashwin, who directed Yevade Subramanyam, a film that starred both Nani and Vijay Deverakonda, reflected on his experience as the movie gears up for a re-release on March 21 to mark its 10th anniversary.

During a recent media interaction, a journalist asked Nag Ashwin whether he would consider making a similar film today, given the current social media climate. In response, he said, "I am not sure about the fan wars, but during the making of Yevade Subramanyam, Vijay was always supportive of Nani. They would discuss each scene together before performing."

When asked if he had any plans to reunite Nani and Vijay for another project, he replied, "Given the present circumstances, I don’t think I can make a film like that with them again. If I were to attempt a fourth film in the same style, it might not have the same impact. Even if it is technically strong, recapturing that natural essence may not be possible."

Nag Ashwin also shared his thoughts on a potential remake of Yevade Subramanyam, suggesting that Naveen Polishetty would be a perfect choice for Nani’s role, while Vijay’s character would require a fresh face.

As Yevade Subramanyam returns to theaters, fans of both actors will have a chance to relive the magic of the film. However, whether this nostalgic experience will help ease the ongoing social media conflict remains to be seen.
