Music Composer Wajid Khan Dies, Bollywood Shocked
MUMBAI: Bollywood's renowned singer-composer Wajid Khan, part of the famous Sajid-Wajid duo, died in the wee hours of Monday in a city hospital due to complications arising from a kidney infection. He was admitted to Surana Hospital in Chembur, Mumbai. Wajid had been suffering from kidney ailment and heart disease for quite sometime. He will be cremated at 7.45 am at Versova burial ground.
Bollywood composer Salim Merchant confirmed the news of Wajid's death. Speaking to a news agency, he said that, "He had multiple issues. He had a kidney issue and had a transplant a while ago. But recently he got to know about kidney infection. He was on the ventilator for the last four days, after his situation started getting worse. Kidney infection was the beginning and then he got critical."
Sajid-Wajid duo made their entry into Bollywood with the film, Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya in 1998 and later composed musice for many films like, Chori Chori, Hello Brother, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Wanted, Dabangg franchise, etc.
Wajid Khan started his career as a singer in 2008 with the film Partner and later sang popular numbers like 'Hud Hud Dabangg', 'Jalwa', 'Chinta Ta Ta Chita Chita' and 'Fevicol Se' among others.
Salim Merchant tweeted his reaction, "Devastated with the news of the passing away of my brother Wajid of Sajid-Wajid fame. May Allah give strength to the family. Safe travels bro Wajid Khan, you’ve gone too soon. It’s a huge loss to our fraternity. I’m shocked & broken. Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un".
The entire Bollywood is mourning the sudden demise of the singer-composer. Priyanka Chopra tweeted, “Terrible news. The one thing I will always remember is Wajid bhai’s laugh. Always smiling. Gone too soon. My condolences to his family and everyone grieving. Rest in peace my friend. You are in my thoughts and prayers."
Singer Tulsi Kumar said, "This cannot be true! I can’t believe that Wajid bhai has left us. In state of complete shock ! Worked with u on so many songs and just met u a while ago Wajid Khan. May your soul Rest In Peace. May god give strength to the family to bear this huge loss."
Harshdeep Kaur said via Twitter, “Extremely sad to hear about Wajid Khan. Gone too soon!! May god bless his soul.”
Vishal Dadlani wrote on Twitter, “Heartbroken. Both Sajid and Wajid have been close & true friends. The kind who might see the light on and show up at our studio in the middle of the night just to meet and talk and share a laugh. Can’t believe Wajid and I will never speak again."
Sona Mohapatra said , “Heartbreaking news. Wajid no more. Spent time on the SRGMP show with him as a co-judge & he was so kind & generous. I know he was ailing for a while, regret not picking up the phone on him in this lockdown. Stunned & sad.”
Shweta Pandit tweeted as, "Devastated! Mere Wajid Khan always full of life, so talented, encouraging and one of the most caring people ive met in our music industry, you’ve left us so soon. Wajid bhai, may God keep you safe in his arms. Your music keeps you alive with us! I'm so broken with this news." She further wrote in another tweet, "Just last month, Wajid Khan texted, telling me to take care in Italy due to COVID-19 and today I'm shocked that he passed away due to COVID-19. He sent me so so many blessings for my baby girl just a few weeks ago. Life can take such harsh turns in just a matter of days ??"
