Amazon Prime Video has bagged the online streaming rights of Rajinikanth's 2.0 for a record amount, sources say. While the amount itself remained undisclosed, it is being discussed in in industry circles as a new record and the film itself is likely to be released in April, 2018.

The producers refused to spell out details about the film's release, but sources say that it is likely to hit the screens sometime in April.

It is speculated that the release of the film got postponed because Akshay Kumar's Padman is scheduled for a Republic Day release. Therefore, the release of 2.0 is likely to coincide with the Tamil new year, the other reason being the completion of examination schedules in most places.

April marks a vacation period and is seen as a good time for the release of a film because any around this time tends to attract family audiences. Packed with VFXs which would prove to be an added attraction for kids, the film could prove to be a major draw and a big success at the box office as well.

According to the sources, post-production delay is behind the completion of the film and its consequent release.
