Hyderabad: Construction of new capital city Amaravati has faced environmental clearance hurdle. The Environmental Clearance file pertaining to the approval of construction work on AP’s capital has been sent back by the Central Government.

Earlier, Andhra Pradesh government had asked the Central Government to de notify the forest lands from the capital area. Central Environmental Advisory Committee had raised some doubts on the transfer of 19,000 Hectares of forest land for the construction of Amaravati.

Hence the CEAC sent back the EC file stating that the information in the denotification is incomplete. Earlier, a petition was filed at the National Green tribunal by social activist, former IAS officer EAS Sarma challenging the approval of EC for the construction of AP’s new capital city.
