AIMIM emerges second largest party in Aurangabad civic polls - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad-based Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen has proved its mettle in the Aurangabad municipal corporation elections by emerging as the second largest party in the corporation.

It has effectively reduced the Congress and the Nationalist Congress to marginal players in the corporation.
The corporation results announced on Thursday showed that while BJP-Shivsena combine 51 seats out of a total of 113,the MIM has won 26 seats. The Congress won 10 and NCP 8 seats. Others and independents won 23 seats. Party leaders Asaduddin Owaisi and Akbaruddin Owaisi personally camped in Aurangabad and mobilised the party machinery for the elections.
The MIM did exceedingly well in the Muslim dominated areas and virtually decimated the Congress and NCP, which hitherto claimed to be the benefactors of the Muslim minorities. The results have clearly shown the alienation of the Muslims from the mainstream parties.
The MIM has two MLAs in the Maharashtra assembly and have garnered most Muslim votes in the state assembly elections. The MIM has also performed creditably in some municipalities of both Maharashtra as well as Karnataka.
The party headquarters in Darussalam, Hyderabad wore a festive look with party workers celebrating the Aurangabad victory.
