After respite from Swine Flu, it's time for Bird Flu

Hyderabad: Telangana government officially confirmed the outbreak of Bird Flu, caused by H5N1 virus.

The process of culling of an estimated 1.45 lakh birds has been initiated.

Five of the about ten samples sent to Animal Disease Laboratory confirmed the infection. Emergency meetings were held by the district authorities in Ranga Reddy, Mehboobnagar and Hyderabad (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits). Few NGO's and public organizations are requesting people not to eat Chicken for 20 days and eat only boiled eggs.  The emergency team seperated healthy birds from the affected one. The entire culling process would be completed within 72 hours, so far as many as 1.45 lakh birds are affected. This is being seen as a big blow for the poultry industry.
