Advani, Joshi Get Bail In Babri Demolition Case, Seek Discharge
Lucknow: Senior BJP leaders LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi among 10 others, who were accused in the Babri Masjid demolition case, on Tuesday moved the CBI court here seeking their discharge in the case before they were granted bail.
The defence counsel moved a "discharge application" in which the accused claimed not guilty in the December 1992 razing of the mosque at Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh.
The lawyers said that the court, which granted bail on personal bonds of Rs 50,000 each, is now dictating the order on the discharge application. The court was to frame charges against the accused in the case on Tuesday.
It may be recalled that the Supreme Court ordered for speedy prosecution of senior leaders Advani, Joshi, Uma Bharti and others for the alleged criminal conspiracy in the politically sensitive case. The apex court also ordered that the trial shall be concluded in two years. — (IANS)
