A Heart-Rending Example Of Work-Life Balance
Sangareddy: This is an example of work-life balance of a woman bus conductor that is sure to tug the heart.
The woman conductor, Alia Jahan, is on contract job with the TSRTC. She carries her eight-month-old baby girl on her shoulders while issuing tickets to passengers in the bus. Speaking to 'Sakshi', Alia said she does not have anyone at home to take care of the child. Alia's was an inter-religious marriage. A native of Pedda Shankarampeta in Medak district, she married Ravinder in 2012. The latter works as assistant in Pedda Shankarampeta Agricultural Society. Since it was an inter-religious marrriage both parents of Ravinder and Alia disowned them. While they were disowned by both the families, bad luck continued to trail them.
In 2013, the couple had a child following which Alia applied for six months maternity leave. It was during this time that the job of her fellow contract workers were regularised by the government of the day leaving Alia with a missed opportunity. In 2015-16, she was blessed with a baby girl and again applied for a six-month maternity leave. As fate would have it, the government passed orders for regularisation of services of all contract workers. Being on leave, she missed the regularisation opportunity again.
With the hope that her services too will be regularised by the government anytime, Alia balances her baby while issuing tickets to passengers.
