9 held for planning to kidnap jeweller

A gang of nine persons hatched a plan to kidnap a wealthy businessman for ransom.

The gang includes a B.Tech. graduate and other well-educated people too.

“The plan of the gang is kidnapping and demanding ransom money only, but not doing murders,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police of Vijayawada Ravi Prakash.

Ramanujam alias Sriram hatched the kidnapping plan along with Chinta Rakesh of Vijayawada. Seven other persons are also there in the gang. The gang members tried to kidnap Rajendra Kumar Jain, a jeweller of Narsapur in West Godavari district, and demand a ransom amount of Rs. 1 crore.

But, the police thwarted the plot of the gang and arrested all nine persons. They recovered some dummy guns and two vehicles from them.
