9 food items through PDS from Ugadi

Decks cleared for distribution of nine food items through Public Distribution System (PDS) from Telugu new Year Ugadi on March 27.

The State Government on Monday announced that white ration card holders would get a bag of essential commodities including wheat, wheat atta, sugar, red gram, palm oil, tamarind, chilly powder, turmeric powder and salt. The goods would be made available at FP shops from March 27 on the eve of Ugadi. 

In his budget speech, Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy said the scheme would cost Rs 660 crore to the state exchequer and 7.5 crore people would benefit. This is apart from Rs 1 kg rice and about 3.25 lakh tonnes of rice was being distributed under the rice scheme.
