70 year-old Arab marries 17-year-old girl in Old city

Hyderabad: A 70 year-old Arab Sheikh from Oman allegedly married a 17 year-old girl from the Old city on contract basis of Rs 60,000 given to her mother.  

The ordeal unfolded when the teenager persuaded a 10-year-old boy to call the police, when she told him that she was married against her will.

Within minutes the Police arrived at Kanchanbagh and raided the house. Arresting the assailant ,Al SanaidiKhamisMohd. Khamis, two brokers who were responsible for the deal Noorjahan and Shafiq Mohammed. According to our sources, the Sheikh approached several agents in Barkas and Chandrayangutta for him to marry a minor. However, was not able to get match for himself. Hence he approached the two brokers Noorjahan and Shafiq who were able to crack a deal by paying money to the minor’s mother.

The Teenager stated that the assailant tried to sexually assault her, a charge has been filed by the police.

The Sheikh came to India on a tourist visa and gave a statement that " Even his forefathers had come to Hyderabad and married minors here on contract basis and flew back to their countries". according to the South Zone DCP V. Satyanarayana.

The police added that the qazi from Kishanbagh who performed the marriage is absconding.
