11 Passengers Killed As Diwakar Bus Plunges Into Culvert In Krishna Dist

Vijayawada: At least 11 passengers traveling in a private bus from Bhubaneswar to Hyderabad died after the bus plunged into a culvert at Mullapadu in Penuganchiprolu mandal of Krishna district in the wee hours on Tuesday.

Another 15 passengers sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment at government hospitals in Nandigama and Jaggayyapet. Some of them have been shifted to Vijayawada for a better treatment as their condition is stated to be serious.

The ill-fated Diwakar Travels bus carrying 44 passengers lost control and took a plunge between two culverts around 12 feet deep at 5.45am.

By the time police reached the spot, six passengers were dead and almost all passengers in the bus sustained injuries. Three more of them including a woman died at hospital. As the bus got stuck between a narrow gap between two culverts, it took a lot of time for the police to rescue the injured and some of them were already critical.

Driver's negligence or his drowsiness is believed to be the reason for the accident.

Seven of the total 11 deceased have been identified so far:

Driver Adinarayana Reddy (Thadipatri), Tulasamma who belonged to Santa Bommali in Srikakulam boarded the bus at Tekkali to travel to Hyderabad. Madhusudan Reddy (traveling from Bhubaneswar to Hyderabad), Baldev Singh (Bhabaneswar to Hyderabad), Shaik Basha of Vijayawada and Krishna Reddy and Sekhar Reddy, both were brothers who belonged to Suryapet.
