Monuments are those historic places that are a city’s pride. Just like Delhi boasts of Qutab Minar and Red Fort; Agra of the Taj Mahal, Hyderabad has its own gemstone to show off – the Charminar.
On a day out in the city’s most notable area, here are the five things you cannot miss out on doing. How can you not check out the monument itself?
1. Charminar
The Charminar is open every day from 9am to 5pm where you can check out the monument, click some tourist-like snaps, watch the foreigners being awestruck at what they’re experiencing, read some of the written made by visitors and of course, enjoy a panoramic view of Hyderabad while you have the chance.
2. Salarjung Museum
The Salarjung Museum, which is at a stone’s throw distance (not literally) from the Charminar is famous for the artifacts it is home to. The museum has a collection of sculptures, paintings, relics and works of art from the old. You can spend hours together being fascinated by the collection it holds. The most popular sculptures is that of the veiled Rebecca.
3. Shop at Chudi Bazaar/Laad bazaar
This market is a one-stop destination for women who are looking at spoiling themselves to something very Indian and ethnic. Also famous for its natural oils-perfume ‘ittar’, the road that stretches over 1 km, can provide much that you would like to stack your dressing table with.

If you believe in the phrase – old is gold, this is for you. Charminar on Thursdays and Sundays have vendors selling antiques at throwaway prices. The Sunday Flea Market (7 am onwards) and the Thursday Jumme Raat Bazaar (6am – 12pm) not just sell beautiful antiques, but also electronics and clothes that you wouldn’t have to spend too much on.
5. Siddique Kebabs
Kebabs from the oldest maker in town have to be very special and way more delicious than they already are. Apart from the deliciousness, you are offered a variety of meaty delights to choose from at a very moderate price.
