43-Year-Old Teacher Suspended For Marrying Minor Girl

Hyderabad: A 43-year-old Zilla Parishad High School teacher was suspended on Thursday for marrying a 16-year-old girl. The accused P. Mallesh, father of a nine-year-old, worked at Somagurthy Pudur Mandal of Vikarabad and married the minor without divorcing his wife.
The action was taken after the incident was brought to the notice of Vikarabad collector D. Divya, who ordered his suspension. The issue was taken up by Balala Hakkula Sangham that lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission.
"We condemn the attitude of the teacher. As a stake holder to prevent child marriages he himself married a minor and should be punished under the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and rape," said Achyuta Rao, Balala Hakkula Sangham president.

He added that a case was lodged against him in March by his wife when he earlier too married a minor girl, but no action was taken. However, after this incident came to light they lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission seeking a stern action against the teacher.
