Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, four sanitary workers died in a manhole in Hitec City’s Ayyappa Society on Saturday evening. A team of five workers were involved in cleaning the manhole as part of the Metro water works. Four of them lost their lives in the process.

The sanitary workers were identified as Satyanarayana, Nagesh, Sandhu and Srinivas, all GHMC contract workers from Manikeswara Nagar near Osmania University. Sources said the mishap may have occurred due to poisonous gases and the depth of the manhole.

Deputy Mayor Fasiuddin and civic body officials rushed to the spot and monitored the rescue operations. After bringing them out, they tried to rush them to hospital, but to no avail. All the four died before being taken to the hospital.
