1.25 Crore Pilgrims To Throng Samakka Saralamma Medaram Jatara
Medaram: As many as 1.25 crore pilgrims are expected to visit Telangana biennial tribal fair — Sammakka Saralamma Jatara at Medaram in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district. People from Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra and other parts of South Indian are making a beeline to offer prayers at Medaram.
The Telangana government has spent Rs 80 crore for amenities at Medaram. The tribal goddess Saralamma, daughter of Sammakka, arrived at Medaram village on Wednesday with elaborate tribal rituals from Kanepally village. Sammakka will arrive at the platform from Chilakalagutta village on Thursday night. After which the temple priests will perform special prayers to the deity and place the goddess on the platform. Later, pilgrims will be allowed to offer jaggery (bangaram) to the deities.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Vice President Venkaiah Naidu are expected to visit Medaram on February 2 to make their offerings to the tribal deities.
