Four Medical Students Killed in Ghastly Road Accident

Vijayawada: Four medical students and their driver were killed while 17 others were injured in a ghastly road accident near Gollapudi village in Vijayawada late on Monday night.

The students belonging to Osmania Medical College were returning to Hyderabad from Amalapuram in a private bus when the accident occurred. There were 45 students in the bus at the time of the accident. According to villagers, the bus first hit a road divider then collided with a tree resulting in several students falling on each other in the bus while others got stuck between the bus seats. The bodies of four students were retrieved from under the seats. Some of the students, who survived the accident, alleged that the driver was drunk while driving the bus. They also stated that they called the transport company for a replacement driver. Also, they had suggested to their driver to stop the bus as his driving was erratic but he is alleged to have continued driving and did not heed to the students' plea. Meanwhile the condition of the 17 injured students is stated to be critical.
