Repalle (Guntur): Police have taken into custody deceased Shaik Jasmin’s brother and 10 others of Adavuladeevi village for lynching an engineering student suspecting he is the reason behind Jasmin’s death. The police have booked them under sections 302 and 71 of IPC.
Section 144 has been imposed in the town and called for additional forces at Government General Hospital where autopsy has been conducted on Jasmin and Srisai. Although police remain tight-lipped, sources said that reports indicated a physical assault on Jasmin.
Jasmin (19) has allegedly committed suicide on Sunday after which a tense atmosphere prevailed in the village. As per reports, the girl was found hanging at her house by a relative who also saw the two youth – Srisai and Pawan - outside the house. They were caught and beaten by sticks and bat by the villagers.
Srisai’s mother Leela accused sub-inspector Srinivasa Rao over dereliction of duty and said had the police acted swiftly his son would have survived.
Contrary to the allegations, Bapatla zone DSP Mahesh said, “the villagers outnumbered us and we tried our best to rescue Srisai and Pawan from the clutches of nearly 400 villagers.”
