10000 acres of AP Capital Area flood prone
In a revelation that is sure to raise alarm, at least 10000 acres of the Andhra Pradesh’ capital region is flood prone. According to Capital Area Development Authority, 10,600 acres along the 29.50 km long Kondaveeti Vaagu is prone to floods. At least 7300 cusecs of water flows during the floods.
The government is now planning to minimize the flood effect by taking up dredging operations in the canals and rivulet along the capital area.
A special consultancy has been appointed to study the issue. Another agency has been entrusted with the responsibility of finding out ways and means to minimize the flood impact on the capital area.
In another development, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to denotify forest lands in a big way to enable industrialists and entrepreneurs to set up their establishment. According to sources some 53000 acres of forest area in Krishna and Guntur district would be denotified to pave way for industrialists to set up their establishments. Already over 36000 acres are being taken away to construct the capital.
