1,120 kg ganja seized 4 held
Police today seized ganja valued at Rs 18 lakh and arrested five persons in this connection in Visakhapatnam District.
The cannabis, weighing 1,120 kg and stuffed in 28 bags, was seized following a raid in Vaddipa and Ratnampeta villages under Narsipatnam sub-division, said Tafseer Iqbal, Assistant Superintendent of Police, at a press meet in the city.
The contraband was valued at Rs 18 lakh, he said. The raid was carried out after receiving a tip-off. Five persons were apprehended and an equal number wanted in connection with the seizure absconding, Iqbal said.
He said 7,200kg of ganja had been confiscated in Narsipatnam sub-Division in separate incidents during 2012 and 127 people arrested. Besides, Rs 1.64 lakh in cash and 33 vehicles were seized during the period.
