The police shifting the former MP Ponnam Prabhakar to hospital

Karimnagar: Former MP Ponnam Prabhakar, who is on a fast demanding a medical college at the district headquarters, has been arrested by the police on Tuesday morning. The police took Prabhakar into custody and shifted him to Karimnagar Government Hospital.

As the former MP's health was deteroirating, doctors on Monday examined him and stated that the hunger strike may effect his kidneys and heart if he further continued it. On the doctor's statement, the state government ordered the police to put an end to the strike.

Congress leaders staged a protest against the state government for disrupting the strike and arresting Prabhakar. But the former MP told media that he will continue the hunger strike from the hospital till the government promises to set up medical college in Karimnagar.

The DCC chief Mrutyunjayam called for a strike throughout the district to protest Prabhakar’s arrest.
