Kalvakuntla Kavitha Takes A Stand On Women In Telangana Cabinet

TRS MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad:Chief Minister of Telangana K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR), has come under fire for not inducting a women member into his cabinet. His daughter and Telangana Rashtra Samiti Lok Sabha member K Kavitha, said on Friday that she cannot influence her father in his political decisions.

The TRS resumed power and KCR who took charge on December 13 for a second term, came under criticisim for not having a woman representative in his recently inducted 10-member cabinet. This was the scene even the first time KCR had taken charge when there was no woman representation in the then inducted cabinet.

In Kavitha’s words, no woman had been given “equal space” in politics, be it in TRS or any other Party. Out of the 85-plus MLAs only four were women. "I would never shy away and today I again reiterate that no party -- it could be TRS, it could be Congress, it could be BJP, whichever party, it will not give equal space to women unless and until it is mandated by the Election Commission of India or Parliament,” she said to a local daily.

"If you talk about me wielding my power around my father (to induct a woman into the Council of Ministers), I don't think that's how it works in politics."

The only TRS woman Lok Sabha member said. Kavitha called herself a junior in Indian politics and that is not a person of power who can influence the CM and her father KCR, who has more than 40 years of experience in politics.

Kavitha also said she does not hope that the Women's reservation bill, which is pending in Parliament, would be passed in the near future.
