The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. Kavitha, aged 46, was taken into custody by the CBI from her residence in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, on Thursday. This comes a month after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested her in the money laundering case.

The CBI's action follows its questioning of Kavitha in Tihar jail, where she has been lodged since her arrest by the ED. The agency received permission from a special court to interrogate her about WhatsApp chats recovered from co-accused Buchi Babu's phone and documents related to a land deal.

Authorities believe that the land deal involved the alleged payment of Rs 100 crore in kickbacks to the Aam Aadmi Party to sway the excise policy in favour of a liquor lobby.

The Delhi Court has extended Kavitha's custody until April 23, following her appearance before the court upon the expiration of her previously granted judicial remand.

The arrest of the BRS MLC is the latest development in the ongoing investigation into the Delhi excise policy case, which has already seen the involvement of several high-profile individuals.
