TDP Leader Held On Sexual Harassment Charges
Eluru: With Andhra Pradesh already claiming the top spot with regard to women's harassment, cases of assault against women, another instance of sexual harassment of a lady and that too by a ruling party leader, surfaced here. It is unfortunate that the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders have been involved in dozens of assault cases against women.
The latest incident had occurred in Eluru. The Two Town police here have registered a case against TDP leader Musunuru Ramakrishna alias Kittu for harassing a girl who was to get married in a couple of weeks. It is said the TDP leader made calls to her and spoke objectionably and even blackmailed her. The police have taken him into custody and are inquiring.
It is learnt that Kittu had even called up the family of her prospective husband and had said they both were very close friends and issued threats against the marriage. Similarly, he had called the girl's family as well. He told them that he would not let the marriage take place. After putting up with his relentless harassment for some time, the girl's father complained to the police. The Two Town police registered a case under sections 354 (D), 506 and 509. The police suspect that apart from Kittu, a few others were also connected with the case. The police is investigating the matter.
