She Committed Suicide Just Three Months After Marriage Over Dowry Harassment

Amalapuram: A married woman committed suicide on Wednesday at Amalapuram. The victim, identified as Kamisetty Arunadevi (24), hanged herself at her house.

According to the police, Arunadevi married KV Perumalla on May 5, 2018 in Amalapuram. The couple stayed together for one month and later Perumalla left her at her mom's place and went to France on work.

He kept pestering her to pay extra dowry. His parents who live in France and his sister in Hyderabad also harassed Aruna for more money, police said. He recently, demanded Rs 10 lakh from Arunadevi.

On Wednesday, Aruna receiveds a call from her husband when he demanded that she get the money. Unable to bear the harassment, a depressed Aruna hanged herself to death at Amalapuram, said CI Sri Rama Koteswara Rao.

The victim's parents alleged that their daughter died after being repeatedly harassed for dowry and held the entire family responsible for Arunadevi's suicide.

Based on a complaint given by Arunadevi's father, Ravuri Edukondalu, the police started probing the matter. The police filed a case against Perumalla, his parents and his sister. The body was kept in hospital for postmortem since her relatives demanded the in-laws' return to India.
