Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh CPM Secretary P Madhu said it was unfair on the part of the ruling TDP government to arrest YSR Congress Party leaders participating in the state bandh today. Speaking to media here today, he accused AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of suppressing the fight for Special Category Status (SCS) to the state. CPM was against the attitude of AP CM towards achieving SCS, he observed.

The CPM secretary said while Chandrababu was claiming that TDP alone was fighting for SCS against the Central government, the AP CM was asking police to arrest all those people protesting for this cause. Dissent was a right in a democratic society, but Chandrababu was trying curb it. He said on an earlier occasion too, the TDP chief had tried to suppress the fight for SCS.

Madhu said it was alright if TDP doesn't support the fight for SCS, but one wishes that Chandrababu doesn't try to suppress it. Has TDP never protested while they were part of the opposition, he questioned. "It was foolish on part of Chandrababu to arrest opposition leaders and think that the government could suppress the protests." Release all the YSRCP leaders who have been arrested, he demanded.
